Ahead of the month long crucial Budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday reacted strongly to the media reports claiming that the saffron party is forming ‘shadow cabinet’ to build pressure on the government.
Without mincing any words Omar told reporters in Srinagar, “There is only one Cabinet. In our country, there is no provision of ‘shadow cabinet’. BJP ruled in past and it is time for the elected government to serve people. So there is no need of ‘shadow cabinet’. Whatever we have promised to our people, will be addressed and the government is firm on that.
Omar was interacting with media persons after meeting Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Hasnain Masoodi to offer condolences with them.
According to the media reports, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formed a “shadow cabinet” to keep a close watch on the performance of the National Conference (NC)-led government in the Union Territory.
According to sources, Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma has played a key role in the formation of the “shadow cabinet”.
Party insiders claimed the BJP has created a group of senior MLAs to closely examine the performance of different departments and to question their functioning both inside and outside the Assembly.
“The party has talked to the senior MLAs, who served as ministers in the previous PDP-BJP government, to closely audit the functioning of the departments assigned to them for Assembly interventions and other issues”.
Referring to the holy month of Ramadan starting from March 2, Omar said that the departments have been directed to ensure better facilities to the people.
He said that the government is trying to ensure adequate electricity and water supply, especially during Sehri and Iftari.
