In a significant development in the sensational Saurabh murder case, Muskan Rastogi—accused of murdering her husband along with her lover Sahil Shukla—has been confirmed pregnant while lodged in jail. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ashok Kataria confirmed on Monday that Muskan’s pregnancy test has returned positive.
Muskan, currently incarcerated in connection with the brutal murder of her husband Saurabh, complained of ill health on Sunday night. According to jail authorities, she had vomited and showed signs of discomfort, prompting the jail administration to conduct a pregnancy test. The test result confirmed that she is indeed pregnant.
Senior Jail Superintendent Dr. Viresh Raj Sharma said, “Every female inmate undergoes a pregnancy test during the medical check-up process. Muskan Rastogi’s test was conducted as part of this routine, and it came out positive.”
Muskan and her co-accused, Sahil Shukla, are undergoing rehabilitation for substance abuse while in jail.
Doctors at the de-addiction centre have reportedly declared both of them free from drug dependence.
While Sahil has taken up farming duties inside the prison premises, Muskan has enrolled in a tailoring course as part of the jail’s skill-building initiative.
The case has shocked the Indira nagar locality of Meerut, where the murder took place. According to police, Saurabh was killed on the night of March 3 by Muskan and Sahil. The following day, on March 4, the duo bought a blue plastic drum and concealed Saurabh’s body in it using a mixture of cement and dust.
The murder came to light on March 18 when Muskan herself confessed to the crime. Both Muskan and Sahil were arrested shortly thereafter and have remained in judicial custody since.
SP City Ayush Vikram Singh said on Monday that the charge sheet in the case will be filed soon, and investigations are in the final stages.
