In a shocking incident in Vrindavan, Mathura, a man suffering from severe abdominal pain attempted to perform surgery on himself after watching YouTube videos.
The act left even doctors stunned.
The man, identified as 32-year-old Raja Babu, a resident of Sunrakh, had been experiencing persistent stomach pain for several days.
Despite multiple visits to doctors, he found no relief. Frustrated by his condition, he decided to take matters into his own hands.
According to his nephew, Rahul Thakur, Raja Babu had undergone an appendix operation 18 years ago and had been suffering from recurring pain ever since.
In a desperate attempt to cure himself, he procured medical supplies, including a numbing injection, a surgical blade, and other essentials from a local store.
After administering the anaesthesia to numb his abdomen, Raja Babu proceeded to cut open his stomach using the surgical blade.
Initially, he felt no pain, but as the effects of the anaesthetic wore off, he began experiencing excruciating pain. Despite this, he managed to stitch up his wound with 11 self-applied sutures.
However, his condition quickly deteriorated, and he started screaming in agony. Alarmed by his cries, family members rushed to his aid and immediately took him to the district hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
Doctors treating Raja Babu expressed shock at his actions, emphasising the grave risks associated with self-surgery.
“This could have resulted in a severe infection or even fatal complications. Performing surgery without medical expertise is extremely dangerous,” a hospital official stated.
Raja Babu is currently receiving medical care, and doctors are monitoring his condition closely.
“The incident highlights the dangers of relying on unverified medical procedures found on the internet,” the doctor said.
