A well known name in the field of cost accountancy 'The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India' (ICMAI), has organised a two-day symposium.
The prime objective of this Symposium is to discuss and assess ICMAI’s crucial role and contributions in nation's progress and development.
Titled as “Adaptation in a Changing Landscape – My Viksit Bharat 2047,” this symposium is being held from 28 February to 1st March 2025, at the ICAR Convention Center, NSC Complex, Todapur, Pusa Road, New Delhi.
This event is being organised by the Northern India Regional Council of The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India'
On the first day of the symposium chief guest Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
Chairperson of parliament's committee of welfare of SCs and STs Faggan Singh Kulaste and member of Lok Sabha Bansuri Swaraj also attended the symposium as Guests of Honor.
Santosh Pant (Chairman and Convener, ICMAI Northern India Regional Council), M.K. Anand, Rajendra Singh Bhati (Central Council Members), S.N. Mittal (Vice Chairman, NIRC), S.K. Bhatt (Co-Convener), Rakesh Yadav (Secretary), Jeevan Chandra (Treasurer), Pawan Kumar (Chief Advisor, Cost, Government of India), Manish Kandpal, Honey Singh, and Madhuri Kashyap were also present on the stage.
A large number of young professionals, industrialists, bureaucrats, and ICMAI students also attended the symposium. During the first day of the symposium, all distinguished guests, praised and lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Developed India 2047.
Santosh Pant, Chairman and Convener of ICMAI’s Northern India Regional Council, welcomed the chief guest Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and other dignitaries.
NIRC Chairman Santosh Pant presented his views by stating, "ICMAI is fully committed to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India. Our 65 years of expertise in cost accountancy will significantly contribute to our country's progress and we will continue to play an active role to achieve this goal.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed the symposium and said, "Institutions like ICMAI plays an important role in the country’s progress as they help in enhancing the investment opportunities in the Indian economy. To attract economic investments, our financial laws require stability along with necessary reforms in response to changing global scenarios. Because of our financial reforms, India's growing economic strength is evident worldwide"
Loksabha speaker Om Birla also congratulated Chairman and Convener of ICMAI’s Northern India Regional Council, Santosh Pant and assured that ICMAI’s recommendations would be considered by the Parliamentary Committee on Financial Affairs to create employment opportunities and foster skill development among the youth.
Speaking at the event, Faggan Singh Kulaste said, "the Chairman of the drafting committee of Indian Constitution, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, strongly advocated for the upliftment of Scheduled Castes and Tribes because bringing forward the most marginalized sections is utmost important for national development."
He further emphasized the need for expanding institutions like MSMEs and commercial sectors to increase people’s participation in economic growth. Kulaste expressed his enthusiasm for the 'Viksit India 2047' initiative and stated that the entire nation would work together to turn this vision into reality.
Lok Sabha member Bansuri Swaraj also addressed the symposium, stating, "Under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is making remarkable progress on the global platform, strengthening its economic power. Despite global challenges, India remains one of the world’s top five economies, which is a significant achievement." She also highlighted the Digital and 5G revolution. Bansuri referred to CMAs as ‘silent policy influencers' and said that the cost estimation for both the Ram Lalla temple and the Chandrayaan mission was conducted by the CMA Committee.
Praising the Chairman of ICMAI’s Northern India Regional Council, Santosh Pant she also said that," I am feeling not like a guest but host of this event because of the venue selected by Santosh Pant as new delhi is my constituency.
During the symposium, former Indian Ambassador Deepak Vohra presented Chairman of ICMAI’s Northern India Regional Council, Santosh Pant a shawl.
He expressed his views and said, "India is transforming rapidly and it is evident from the global perspective also. In 1966, people used to skip meals on Mondays to conserve grains, whereas now we export food grains to other countries—this is the result of visionary leadership of our Prime Minister."
Padma Shri awardee and motivational speaker Santosh Yadav also graced this event and remarked, "When we cultivate good thoughts, they translate into meaningful words. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a positive mindset. National development will only happen when every citizen contributes with positive determination and a strong will."
Chandrashekhar Tiwari, Amit Rautela, Economist Professor Manoj Kumar Agarwal, Poonam Jaiswani, M.C. Bansal along with Vineet Nahta also expressed their views during the first day of this symposium.
'The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India' (ICMAI) is the only recognized statutory professional body and licensing authority for cost accountants in India.
It was established in 1944 under the Companies Act and later gained autonomy as a professional institution under the Cost and Works Accountants Act of 1959. ICMAI is dedicated to promoting, regulating, and developing the cost and management accountancy profession in India.
During the event, various discussion sessions were held, focusing on the role and contribution of ICMAI in the development and progress of the country.
On the second day of the symposium, the Chairman and Convenor of the Northern India Regional Council of ICMAI, Santosh Pant, began the program with his welcome address. On stage with him were chairman of Prasar Bharti Navneet Kumar Sehgal, ICMAI's former President D.C. Bajaj, former Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Dr. Shailendra Kumar, Surya Shankar Banerjee, Harshad Mittal, Manish Kandpal, Jeevan Chandra, Rakesh Yadav, S.N. Mittal, Harshad Deshpande, Anu Kukreja, Bridge and Road Director of Finance N.R. Gupta, Harkesh Tara, Sipan Garg, Navratan Gupta, Gaurav Gulati, Debendu Das, Sandeep Gulati, Saurabh Srivastava, Parmanand Goyal, Media Personality Ishwar Bhati, and Anurag Muskan and Sumaira Khan.
While addressing the symposium, Santosh Pant, Chairman of the Northern India Regional Council of ICMAI, said, "To talk about a developed India, we need to step out of the colonial mindset. We need to leave behind Western culture. Cost and Management Accountancy is a very important profession, and we need to make more efforts to promote it. Our prime aim is to provide the world with expert CMAs so that Indian professionals get better job opportunities across the world. It is our efficiency and skills that we have been standing strong in the field for the last 60 years, without any backup."
ICMAI's former President D.C. Bajaj also presented his views and said, "I would especially like to congratulate Santosh Pant, Chairman of the Northern India Regional Council of ICMAI, for organizing this brilliant symposium and inviting such prominent personalities. Our country provides the world with skilled engineers and accountants, which is a matter of great pride. This has been possible because we are experts in management."
Dr. Shailendra Kumar, former Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, congratulated Santosh Pant, Chairman of the Northern India Regional Council of ICMAI, and mentioned that he has been associated with ICMAI for a long time. Expressing his thoughts, he said, "Growth should be the goal of life, and therefore our thinking and vision should be of a prosperous India. We need to carry our history and civilization forward with us so that we can free ourselves from the colonial mindset." He also mentioned that under the New Education Policy, students can persue medical education in their native language. Students studying in other fields should also be able to study in their native language*.
CMA Harkesh Tara said on this occasion, "The profession of Cost Accountancy is very important for the development of the country as their contribution to improving the economic system of the country is highly commendable."
Chairman of Prasar Bharti Navneet Kumar Sehgal also stated, " media plays a very important role in the development of our nation."
CMA Harshad Deshpande also expressed his views on the stage, stating, "Instead of trying to become like others, we should aim to be the best. We should also focus on how we can contribute more to strengthening the country's economy." He praised Santosh Pant, Chairman of the Northern India Regional Council of ICMAI, and congratulated him on organizing this two-day symposium.
On the second day, all distinguished guests expressed their views, focusing on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Developed India 2047" vision.
It is noteworthy that 'The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India' (ICMAI) is India's only recognized statutory professional organization and licensing body, established in 1944 under the Companies Act. In 1959, the institute was granted recognition as an autonomous professional body under the Cost and Works Accountants Act. The institute works to promote, regulate, and develop the profession of Cost and Management Accountancy.
