Farooq Abdullah challenges J and K normalcy claims

Wednesday, 05 February 2025 | Mohit Kandhari | Jammu

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah Tuesday claimed the targeted killing of a retired army soldier by terrorists in the South Kashmir district of Kulgam disputed the Center's normalcy claims in Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr Abdullah's remarks came ahead of the crucial security review meeting chaired by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.

Responding to a question from a media person over incidents of terrorist violence  on the sidelines of an event in the Government Medical College, Jammu  Dr Farooq Abdullah said, "Question to those who are beating drums in and outside Parliament that militancy has been wiped out and normalcy has returned to Jammu and Kashmir."

Dr Farooq observed if terror activities are still happening in J and K then the government at the Centre should come clean on the facts. "The union government day in and day out is claiming that terrorism has ended in J and K. But this is not the reality. The Central government should come clean on the situation," he said.

In Kulgam, multiple teams have been formed to identify the perpetrators behind the heinous act of violence.

According to ground reports, house-to-house searches were conducted by the security forces in the nearby villages and Behibagh area of Kulgam to track down the footprints of unidentified terrorists behind the targeted killing of an ex-serviceman.

Official sources claimed the police detained several people to interrogate them to gather vital clues about the presence of terrorists in the area and their sympathisers extending logistics support to them to execute their sinister design.

In Srinagar, Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) Tuesday detained five persons for their alleged involvement in smuggling SIM cards inside the Central Jail for their use by inmates, including terrorists.

A spokesman of the CIK said that the individuals were detained for questioning in connection with the investigation of case FIR No. 06/2023 u/s 153-A, 505, 121 & 120-B IPC r/w 13 & 39 UA (P) Act of Police Station CI-K.
