A state-wide crackdown on unauthorised e-rickshaws and autos will commence in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, April 1, and continue untilApril 30. The campaign follows Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive to enhance road safety and law enforcement, with strict warnings against negligence in implementation.
The Chief Minister, in a recent high-level meeting, emphasised that unauthorised e-rickshaws and autos have been responsible for numerous accidents. Acting on his instructions, the Transport Commissioner has directed all Police Commissioners, District Magistrates, and Senior Superintendents of Police to execute the campaign effectively.
Expressing concerns over rising road accidents, Adityanath underscored the importance of preventing minors from driving and mandated the verification of tempo and e-rickshaw drivers. He also instructed that officials from the Transport Department be included in district-level task forces to ensure thorough enforcement. The Transport Department will oversee the campaign’s execution with designated nodal officers monitoring operations. Additional Transport Commissioner (Enforcement) Sanjay Singh has been appointed as the nodal officer at the headquarters, tasked with daily supervision of district-level activities. Divisional Transport Officers (Administration/ Enforcement) at the district level have been assigned the responsibility of ensuring the campaign’s success. A progress report detailing enforcement measures and outcomes will be submitted to the government every Friday.
