Court issues bailable warrant against Malaika Arora in Saif hotel brawl case

A Mumbai Magistrate court has re-issued a bailable warrant to Bollywood actress Malaika Arora in the 2012 hotel brawl case involving actor Saif Ali Khan and two others, after she skipped summons to depose before the court as a witness in the case.

In a development that came on Monday after she failed to appear before the court on March 15 in response to the summons issued to her and her sister Amrita Arora Ladakh, Chief Judicial Magistrate K S Zanwar re-issued the bailable warrant of Rs 5,000 to Malaika, and sought a warrant report to be submitted by April 29. Her sister Amrita had deposed as a witness on March 29.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Zanwar is currently recording the testimony of witnesses in the case. Malaika is a witness in the case. It may be recalled that Saif was arrested along with his friends Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi for allegedly assaulting allegedly assaulted South Africa-based businessman of Indian origin Iqbal Mir Sharma and his father-in-law Ramanbhai Patel at Wasabi Sushi Bar and Grill in Taj Mahal Hotel and Towers in the wee hours of February 22, 2012. Saif and his two friends came to be arrested after Sharma lodged a complaint with the nearby Colaba police stations.

Actress and Saif’s then living-in partner and now wife Kareena Kappor and her actress-sister Karishma Kapoor, item queen of Bollywood Malaika Arora Khan, her sister Amrita Arora were among those present at the Taj restaurant, when the brawl between the Saif group and businessman Iqbal Sharma allegedly took place.

Saif and his friends were released on bail subsequently. After he was released on bail, Saif had apologized for the scuffle at Wasabi restaurant and said that the incident had nothing to do with his forthcoming film “Agent Vinod”.

“Whatever I had to say, I had cleared yesterday. It shouldn’t have happened. It was an unfortunate incident. In a way I would like to say sorry for whatever happened,” Saif had said at a news conference.
