Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday launched a sharp attack on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, holding him directly responsible for any harm that may come to SP MP Ramji Lal Suman, who has allegedly received threats from right-wing groups following his remarks about historical figures. “If anything untoward happens to Ramji Lal Suman, then Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be held accountable, as he is supporting organisations that are issuing threats to our MP,” Yadav said during a press briefing.
Ramji Lal Suman recently stirred controversy after stating that Rana Sanga had invited Babur to Hindustan, a remark that has drawn the ire of several organisations. Since then, the SP leader has reportedly been facing threats, prompting the party to raise the issue publicly.
Akhilesh accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of promoting communalism to divert attention from its failures. “To cover up rising inflation, growing unemployment, and the collapse of welfare schemes, the BJP is resorting to communal tactics. They are spreading hatred to distract the public,” he alleged.
Drawing a parallel with Nazi Germany, the SP chief said, “During Hitler’s time, there was a stormtrooper army that used to threaten and terrorize people. A similar force is active in our state today, empowered by the government. They insult and target citizens without consequence.” He claimed that a “hidden underground force” was functioning under the current regime to suppress dissent and create fear.
