Tension gripped the state capital on Tuesday as thousands of members from the Kshatriya community staged a massive protest at the 1090 intersection, demanding strict action against Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman for his alleged derogatory remarks against Rajput icon Rana Sanga.
The demonstration, organised by 36 Kshatriya organisations under the banner of the All India Kshatriya Mahasabha, witnessed fiery slogans, symbolic displays of defiance, and a brief clash with police forces as protesters attempted to march toward the Chief Minister’s residence.
Chanting “Jai Bhavani, Jai Bhavani” and waving banners that read “Hindustan will not tolerate the insult of Rana Sanga,” the protestors broke through police barricades after being stopped from proceeding. Some even climbed onto police vehicles, while several women participants arrived wielding swords, adding a symbolic edge to the protest.
National President of the All India Kshatriya Mahasabha, Avnish Singh, led the protest and declared it a warning to political leaders who, according to him, insult the legacy of revered historical figures. “We have gathered here to teach a lesson to those who dare disrespect Rana Sanga,” he said.
The protest began around 10 am with people assembling at the 1090 crossing. From there, the crowd intended to march towards the Gandhi statue in Hazratganj. However, due to security concerns, a heavy police deployment was placed along the route to prevent escalation.
Despite the large turnout and tension at the site, no major violence was reported. However, the situation remained tense for hours, prompting traffic diversions and increased vigilance in key areas of the city.
The controversy erupted after MP Ramji Lal Suman allegedly made remarks that were deemed offensive by the Kshatriya community, leading to widespread outrage and calls for his apology or resignation. No official statement from the SP MP had been released at the time of filing this report.
