The Uttar Pradesh police have registered a case against real estate developer Ansal Group on charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust, conspiracy and organised crime. The FIR was lodged a day after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to take strict action against the company and ensure homebuyers' interests are protected. During a session in the state assembly, Adityanath criticised the opposition Samajwadi Party, alleging that its previous government had shielded developers like the Ansal Group.
Even on Wednesday, he raised the issue in the state legislative council and said that the government will take punitive action against the Ansal Group.
The FIR was filed at the Gomti Nagar police station in Lucknow and names key people including Pranav Ansal, Sushil Ansal, Sunil Kumar Gupta, Francette Patricia Atkinson and Vinay Kumar Singh.
They have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy, and organised crime.
In a separate financial blow to the company, the National Company Law Tribunal has admitted Ansal Properties and Infrastructure Limited into the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.
