Bomb threat to Ram Temple triggers panic

Wednesday, 16 April 2025 | Kamlesh Srivastava | Ayodhya

A threatening email claiming a plan to blow up the under-construction Ram Temple in Ayodhya triggered a wave of panic late Monday night. The email, received on the official account of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, warned authorities to “increase the security of the temple.”

Following the threat, a comprehensive search and security operation was launched across Ayodhya. Police and intelligence agencies, along with bomb disposal squads, swept the temple premises and nearby sensitive areas. Security measures were also ramped up in adjoining districts including Barabanki.

An FIR was registered at the Ayodhya Cyber police station based on a complaint filed by Mahesh Kumar, Accounts Officer of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust. The Cyber Cell has launched a probe to trace the origin of the email and identify the sender.

Authorities have not taken the threat lightly, especially given the high-profile nature of the Ram Temple project and the upcoming religious events expected to draw massive crowds.

Senior police officials confirmed that additional forces have been deployed and surveillance has been intensified in and around the Ram Janmabhoomi complex. “We are treating the matter with utmost seriousness,” a police spokesperson said.

In view of the sensitivity of the matter, security alerts were also issued in adjoining districts such as Barabanki, Gonda, and Basti. Checkpoints were set up at district borders, and inter-district vehicle movement was put under strict scrutiny.

The Ram Janmabhoomi Trust expressed concern over the threat but also assured the public that faith and security would not be shaken by such attempts. “The temple construction is a symbol of national pride and faith. We are cooperating fully with the administration to ensure the security of the site and the devotees,” a senior Trust member said.

With several religious events and festivals scheduled in the coming weeks, the latest security scare has prompted the administration to review its preparedness.

Meanwhile, the district administration has appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
