In its quest to curb power theft, the leading power utility Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) supplying electricity to a populace of around nine million in North and North West Delhi, has secured convictions in 17 electricity theft cases from April 2024 till Jan 2025.
Since 2007 till date Special electricity courts have convicted total 78 accused in electricity theft and imposed heavy fine under section 135 of Electricity Act 2003.
"To combat the issue of power theft, Tata Power-DDL filed criminal cases against offenders in the Special Electricity Court Rohini. Noticing the severity and merit of these cases, the Court has passed convictions and Tata Power-DDL embraces the judgement reiterating its unwavering commitment to curb electricity theft.
The company urges all citizens to refrain from engaging in illegal activities and encourages them to report any instances of electricity theft for safeguarding interest of general public", Tata Power said in a statement.
Commenting on the development, Tata Power emphasised upon team's dedication towards eradicating electricity theft, bringing the perpetrators to justice and upholding the integrity for customer services, thereby reinforcing the vision for a sustainable energy future.
