Rs 500 crore budget for the Educational Hub in Narela: LG

Higher education remains our top priority. In line with this, a budgetary provision of ?500 crore has been allocated for the proposed Educational Hub in Narela in this year’s budget. Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor and Chancellor of IP University, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, announced this while delivering the presidential address at the 17th Convocation Ceremony of IP University at its Dwarka campus today.

Addressing the graduating students, he emphasised that they now bear the responsibility of society and the nation. “You must remain sensitive to the world around you. Education that does not bring happiness to someone’s life is of no real value. The teaching of human values cannot be confined to books,” he said.

He further stated that history stands witness to the fact that a single individual can bring about global change. He also assured that Delhi is now in safe hands.

On this occasion, Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta reiterated that improving Delhi’s education system is a top priority. She urged students to recognise their responsibilities towards society, stating that collective participation is the key to achieving the goal of a developed Delhi and a developed India.

Delhi’s Education Minister, Shri Ashish Sood, remarked that a degree is a testimony to a student’s struggle, but their real test begins now. He encouraged students to leverage sustainability and AI to transform the nation and emphasised that the process of learning should never stop.

Delhi Chief Secretary, Shri Dharmendra, stressed the need to bridge the skill gap in his address.

Delivering the convocation address, Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, President of the Indian National Science Academy, highlighted the need to promote an innovation culture in the country. He emphasized the importance of supporting startups, integrating diverse streams of knowledge, and lifelong learning alongside technological applications.

A total of 24,456 students received their degrees at the convocation ceremony, including:

* 110 PhDs

* 12 MPhil degrees

* 2,624 Master’s degrees

* 20,739 Bachelor’s degrees

* 483 MBBS degrees

* 488 MD, MS and Ayurveda Vachaspati degrees

* 74 students were awarded gold medals

The Vice Chancellor of IP University, Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma, presented the University Report, announcing plans to establish an Indian Knowledge Center soon. He also shared that the university has signed nearly 100 MOUs, including 40 international collaborations. The event also marked the launch of a book, “Impressions: The IPU Journey of Excellence,” which showcases the university’s progress.

Inset: Women’s Power Shines at the Convocation Women outshone their male counterparts at the convocation ceremony. Among the 110 PhD recipients, 75 were women compared to 35 men.
