In a sensational killing in Hafizganj area of Bareilly, a woman was brutally murdered by slitting her throat.

On Monday morning, her body was found floating in water filled at the side of the road. Her fingers were also cut.

Reports said that a woman from Nawabganj police station area was going home on a scooty with her cousin sister on Sunday night.

According to the victim's cousin sister, Nawabganj resident Monu Gupta, a grocery merchant, along with his wife and others, who were travelling in a car, stopped them on Hafizganj bypass. They pulled her sister, who was on the pillion of the scooty, and bundled her into the car and escaped.

According to the family members, they filed a complaint at the Hafizganj police station the same night against Monu Gupta and others for kidnapping their daughter.  The police registered the report, but did not make any attempt to search for her.

On Monday morning, the body of the girl was found lying in the water of the ditch near Faizulapur turn in Hafizganj area. Her neck was cut slit and the fingers of the hand were also cut.

As soon as the information was received, the family members of the victim reached the spot along with many villagers. As soon as the information of the murder was received, the local police also reached there. The family of the victim did not allow the police to send the body for post-mortem, accusing the Hafizganj cops of not taking action after the complaint of kidnapping. They were pacified after SP (North) Mukesh Mishra convinced them that stern action will be taken against the accused. The police later sent the body for autopsy.

It is said that Monu Gupta’s wife suspected that the girl had relations with her husband that is why she got the girl killed.

The SP (North) said that it was a case of murder and the accused was being traced. He said the negligence of police had not yet come to light.

In another incident, a man killed his wife on suspicion of her having illicit relation with a police personnel and later committed suicide in Saifai area of Etawah district, a police officer said on Monday.

ASP (Rural) Satya Pal Singh said that late on Sunday night, Avneesh alias Manoj Yadav (30) of Nagla Chain Sukh village strangled his wife Sonam (20) and later hanged himself to death.

“Before committing suicide, Manoj sent a video to his relatives stating his family members and in-laws were innocent and he committed the crime as his wife was having an affair with a youth who lives in his neighbourhood,” the ASP said.
