Weather changes were witnessed in Madhya Pradesh due to the impact of Cyclone Fengal. On Tuesday, many districts in the state experienced cloudy weather, and the minimum temperature increased in all districts except for Tikamgarh and Naugaon.
The temperature in all districts, except these two, was recorded above 10°C. In Bhopal, overcast conditions prevailed in the morning before the skies cleared.
According to the meteorological department, the cyclone will lead to an increase in daytime temperatures, but a drop in nighttime temperatures is expected. It is anticipated that there will be severe cold in December.
Rewa remained the coldest in the state at 10 degrees Celsius, while the state capital recorded the minimum temperature at 12.8 degrees.
The picturesque mountain town of Pachmarhi also recorded a significant rise in the mercury, with the minimum temperature hovering close to 12.5 degrees. Indore remained the warmest among major centers in the state, with a minimum of 16.5 degrees Celsius.
Jabalpur and Gwalior recorded minimum temperatures of 12.6 and 10.5 degrees, respectively.
The Met office said that a western disturbance may cause snowfall in the mountains in the northern parts of the country, leading to strong north-western winds, which will result in a drop in the mercury in the state.
The change in the mountain weather will be most noticeable in Gwalior, Chambal, and Ujjain divisions, where nighttime temperatures will drop.
On the other hand, Indore, Bhopal, and Jabalpur will experience some relief from the cold. The Malwa-Nimar region will likely see more intense cold.
Meanwhile, the district administrations in Bhopal and elsewhere in Madhya Pradesh have asked civic authorities to ensure that the homeless are not left to sleep outdoors this winter. They have said that adequate facilities should be ensured at all night shelters.
Traders at makeshift markets selling woolens in the state capital say their business will suffer if the mercury continues to remain around 12-13 degrees for another week. They say they are praying for a heavy snow season in the northern states of Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.
Large crowds were seen at picnic spots in and around Bhopal on Tuesday—a local holiday on account of the gas tragedy anniversary—as the weather continued to remain pleasant for outdoor activities.
The rise in the mercury after several days of biting cold over the last fortnight brings much-needed relief to the poor, who have seen a break in a long tradition of free firewood distribution this year. The civic administration has attributed the move to rising AQI levels in the city.
The rise in temperatures, however, comes as a relief for pollution control functionaries who heaved a sigh of relief as higher temperatures and a mild rise in humidity played down meteorological factors that are known to send AQI levels surging.
