Transgender community, labourers invited at Modi oath taking ceremony

The grandeur of the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi and the new Cabinet of Ministers was not confined to the presence of prominent figures alone.

While esteemed foreign dignitaries, including Prime Ministers and Presidents from neighboring countries, and renowned business tycoons like Mukesh Ambani, and Gautam Adani and film stars such as Anupam Kher graced the occasion, there were also lesser-known faces that added a touch of depth and diversity to the gala event.

In a gesture of inclusivity and recognition, the much-awaited ceremony saw the participation of individuals from diverse backgrounds, including members of the transgender community, sanitation workers, and labourers involved in the construction of the new Parliament building.

Prior to the ceremony, BJP MP and former Social Justice and Empowerment minister Virendra Kumar hosted a felicitation event for members of the transgender community at his residence. Similarly, BJP MP and former Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat honored sanitation workers.

"This aligns with Prime Minister Modi's vision of 'sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas.' Including members of the transgender community in the ceremony emphasizes the message of inclusivity," Kumar stated to the media.

For the first time, individuals from the transgender community were formally invited to the swearing-in ceremony, acknowledging their contributions to their empowerment, Kumar added.

Former Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also recognized the efforts of 90 labourers involved in the construction of the new Parliament building. Besides, 30 sanitation workers from MCD and some government hospitals were part of the ceremony at the heavily guarded President House. They are unsung heroes, who quietly toil towards the progress and prosperity of the nation, said Mandaviya.

Reflecting on the occasion, Sonam Kinnar, representing the UP BJP unit, conveyed optimism for the new government's endeavors despite the community's reservations regarding seat allocation. "We have full confidence in our Prime Minister, and the situation will improve," affirmed Kinnar.
