Top priority must be given to saving people’s lives: CM

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has said that there is a possibility of rain in the state till September 30. Officers and employees have been instructed not to go on leave given the situation of excessive rainfall and floods. To ensure that life remains normal despite heavy rainfall, necessary precautions should be taken in time and rescue work should be done.

The safety of people's lives must be prioritized, the concerned officer will be held responsible for any loss of life. Relief camps should be set up to provide safety and facilities to the people affected by excessive rainfall and floods.

Cooperation of social organizations should also be taken. Assessment of crop damage and animal loss caused by floods should also be started as soon as possible. There should be no delay in the distribution of relief funds to the victims of floods and excessive rains. Adequate budget is available for relief.

The provision of clean drinking water, medicines, etc. should be ensured in relief camps. Yadav gave the above instructions in the emergency meeting held at Samatva Bhawan for prevention and control of the situation created due to excessive rainfall in the state. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav reviewed the situation in the districts through video conferencing. All Divisional Commissioners, IGs, Commissioners of Police, District Collectors, and SPs were present in VC.

The Chief Minister has said that due to the changing rainfall cycle, the rainfall in September is more than what it should be. People living in lower settlements should be alerted timely and shifted to relief camps as per need. He said necessary precautions and vigilance should be immediately increased on bridges and culverts. Yadav said that relief should be provided in case of loss of life and loss of animals due to excessive rainfall. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav instructed all Collectors to immediately provide assistance of Rs 4 lakh each in case of loss of life to the family members.

Yadav said that wherever people are trapped in flood, immediate arrangements should be made to airlift them by helicopter. Old dilapidated buildings should be identified and protective arrangements should be made. If necessary, residents should be shifted to a safer place. In the meeting held at Samatva Bhawan, Chief Secretary Smt. Veera Rana, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, Director General of Police Sudhir Kumar Saxena, Principal Secretary, Water Resources, Home, Panchayat and Rural Development, Public Works Department, Urban Development and Housing, Revenue, Public Health Medical Education were present.

Yadav sought information related to excessive rainfall and floods from the collectors of Guna, Datia, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Rajgarh, and Tikamgarh districts through video conferencing. It was informed in video conferencing that 18 people are trapped in the Pohuch river near Bhander in Datia district, there is information about people trapped in water in Dabra also. One person is reported dead and three injured due to tree-fall in Morena. It was told in the meeting that helicopters are being dispatched from Jhansi, Bareilly, and Gorakhpur to rescue the people trapped in the flood.

The NDRF team has been called for rescue and relief work in Tikamgarh. The SDRF team is active in the Gwalior Chambal area with boats and other rescue materials. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that because of the possibility of rain in the coming days in the state, proper arrangements should be made for awareness of floods. He instructed for adequate storage of essential commodities.
