United Malayalee Association (UMA) is organising first ever three-day Kerala Fest in Bhopal, from today, at the Bittan Market Grounds. This cultural extravaganza marks a significant milestone for the Association as it celebrates its 40th anniversary by bringing in the rich cultural heritage of Kerala, fondly referred to as ‘God’s Own Country’, to the City of Lakes, Bhopal.
The festivities will kick off on Friday, at 5:30 pm and Cultural program from 7.15 pm promising an array of items that will mesmerize and engage the audience. The festival will showcase a variety of Kerala’s Traditional and Classical performances, offering a unique opportunity to the people of Bhopal to experience the vibrant culture of Kerala. The event will feature an impressive line up of Kerala’s centuries old Traditional folk dance forms, constituting Theyyam, Mayoora Nrithyam, Arjuna Nrithyam, Kummatti, Karinkali, Onathar, and Vattamudi. Each dance form represents a different facet of Kerala’s cultural history and traditions, ensuring a captivating visual feast to the audience.
One of the highlights of the Kerala Fest will be the demonstration of Kalarippayattu, Kerala’s ancient and Internationally acclaimed Martial Art. Known for its acrobatic and complex movements and impressive techniques, Kalarippayattu not only offers a thrilling performance but also serves as a testament to Kerala’s rich martial traditions. In addition to folk dances and martial arts, the festival will feature classical dance performances such as Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, and Mohiniyattam, performed by leading Dance Groups from Bhopal. These classical dance forms, with its intricate choreography and expressive storytelling, will provide a deeper insight into India’s classical art.
Music enthusiasts will be delighted by the Fusion Music performances and a variety of songs scheduled throughout the festival. The blend of traditional and contemporary musical styles promises to create a memorable auditory experience to the audience. Complementing the cultural performances, more than 100 stalls are set up, showcasing a wide range of Kerala’s specialties. These stalls will offer Kerala Spices, Ornaments, Clothes, and information about Educational Institutions and Real Estate opportunities, catering to the diverse interests of the public.
Food lovers are in for a treat as the festival will feature a variety of Kerala’s traditional dishes. From spicy curries to sweet delicacies, the authentic flavors of Kerala’s cuisine will provide a delightful culinary experience to the visitors.
The entrance to the event is designed to resemble heritage Kerala homes, offering a princely look and creating an immersive experience that transports visitors centuries back. The driveway will project scenes from the life and times of Kerala, adding to the overall ambiance of the festival. UMA has extended invitations to a broad cross-section of the society, including the Governor, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers, Ministers, Bureaucrats, Corporate houses, educational institutions, Builders, and various other dignitaries. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their support and intention to be part of the festivities.
