The third convocation ceremony of AIIMS Bhopal was celebrated with full grandeur today. On this occasion, Padma Bhushan awarded Dr. Ashok Laxman Rao Kukde of Vivekananda Hospital and Research Center, Latur Maharashtra joined as the chief guest through virtual medium. While Professor Satya Narayan Sankhwar, Director of the Institute of Medical Sciences of Banaras Hindu University and Professor Abbas Ali Mahdi, Vice Chancellor of Era University Lucknow were present as special guests. Before the commencement of the convocation ceremony, all the guests reached the auditorium in a procession.
While presenting the annual report, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, Professor (Dr) Ajay Singh said that AIIMS Bhopal has made unprecedented progress in the last one and a half years. In which, kidney and bone marrow transplant, establishment of transgender clinic, delivery of medicines to remote areas and bringing blood samples from there by drone etc. are some of the major achievements. The number of patients in OPD has increased by 56%, patients admitted in IPD have increased from 32000 to 50000, while emergency cases have increased by 170%. Bed occupancy has increased from 62 to 77%, while beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat scheme have increased by 53% to 13337. Also, in data linkage in the field of digitization, AIIMS Bhopal has come first among all the AIIMS institutes. He also administered the oath to the students who have completed B.Sc Nursing (Hons) and MBBS.
Expressing his views on this occasion, President of AIIMS Bhopal, Dr. Sunil Malik, who is always ready to provide the best health care facilities to every section of the society, said that in the last one and a half years, AIIMS Bhopal has made a lot of progress under the leadership of Professor (Dr) Ajai Singh. We should make every effort to provide better health services to every citizen. Special guest Professor Satya Narayan Sankhwar said that the level of success achieved by AIIMS Bhopal in the last one and a half years is incomparable. Expressing hope, he said that in future this institute will achieve new heights under the guidance of Professor (Dr.) Ajai Singh. A total of 273 students were awarded degrees in the convocation ceremony, while 21 gold medals were awarded. The overall topper gold medal for MBBS 2018 batch went to Prajapati Vivek Girish Bhai, who received a total of five gold medals. Litti Mary Rosie won the overall topper gold medal for B.Sc Nursing (Hons) 2019 batch. He won three gold medals in total.
On this occasion, Professor Abbas Ali Mahdi, Vice Chancellor of Era University, Lucknow, was honored with an honorary degree. Expressing his happiness, Professor Abbas Ali Mahdi said that the progress he has seen after coming here is definitely praiseworthy. He praised Professor (Dr) Ajai Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS Bhopal, for his commitment towards providing better health services to the people.
In his convocation address, Dr. Ashok Laxmanrao Kukde said that after obtaining the degree, the students will have to work with dedication in the service of humanity. Human service is the greatest service, people consider doctors as God. We have to further strengthen this faith of the people.
