Taking suo motu cognizance of an incident of students beaten by a school teacher for not doing their homework, the Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has asked the Jalandhar (Rural) Senior superintendent of Police (SSP) to submit an action taken report by July 30.
The incident has been reported from Lasara village in Phillaur, where a teacher allegedly thrashed students for not doing their homework. The Commission has written to the Jalandhar (Rural) district police chief asking him to take appropriate action in this regard and submit the action report by 30 July.
“According to the media reports, families of children who are studying at the government primary school in Lasara, near Phillaur, claimed that the teacher slapped and beat the kids with sticks for not completing their homework. The incident involves students aged eight and 10,” said the PSCPCR chairman Kanwardeep Singh.
The Chairman further mentioned that based on the media reports, the Commission has written to SSP, Jalandhar (Rural) to investigate thoroughly and furnish a report by July 30 by all means. “Once the report is received, appropriate action will be taken as per the rules,” he added.
