Former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia, who is presently in jail in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case, has approached a Delhi court seeking his release on interim bail so that he can campaign for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The interim bail has been sought in connection with the cases registered by both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the matter.
Special Judge for the CBI and ED, Kaveri Baweja, directed the central probe agencies to file their replies by April 20, when the court is likely to take up the application for hearing. The CBI as well as the ED have alleged that irregularities were committed while modifying the Delhi excise policy, undue favours were extended to licence holders, licence fee was waived or reduced and licences were extended without the competent authority’s approval.
Sisodia is one among several high-profile political leaders who are presently in jail on allegations that they were part of a criminal conspiracy in framing the now-scrapped Delhi Liquor Policy of 2021-22. Sisodia has been in custody since February last year.
The case originated out of a First Information Report (FIR) registered by the CBI in 2022. It was alleged that AAP leaders received kickbacks from liquor manufacturers through this policy.
