Sisodia-Atishi badly damaged the school educationystem: BJP

Tuesday, 09 July 2024 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Monday accused the duo of former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Education Minister Atishi of badly damaging the school education system of the city.

“They have not recruited regular teachers nor guest teachers and have diverted teachers to non teaching duties thereby leading to one of the worst teacher student ratios in Delhi government schools,” Sachdeva alleged.

He said that the BJP never does politics over education and said, “BJP never wants to do politics on education department work but Minister Atishi has today forced us to put in public domain as to how the Kejriwal government has damaged the education system of Delhi.”

The state BJP chief alleged that the national capital in 2024 has 995 normal schools as compared to 1015 in 2015 when Arvind Kejriwal government first came to power while stating that in these 10 years they have not hired any new regular or guest teachers.

“The other 32 schools for specialized education totally lack facilities are some of them worst schools. As per the Right to Education statistics Delhi government schools need around 62,000 teachers while there are only around 43,000 teachers alongwith around 13,000 guest teachers. There is a lack of around 6000 teachers in Delhi Government schools,” he stated, adding that the government schools lack teachers yet the Kejriwal Government has diverted over 5000 teachers to non teaching duties thus badly affecting teaching in schools.

“Shockingly school teachers are forced to do clerical duties, work as legal assistants and work as OSDs to senior officials. Despite a lack of 6,000 teachers, the Sisodia and Atishi duo have removed almost 5,000 teachers from teaching duties,” he said.

Sachdeva said 205 teachers have been made School Mentors, 1,027 have been made School Coordinators, 1,027 have been made Teacher Development Coordinator while they now don't perform any teaching duty.

“70 teachers who have law qualification have been diverted to work on Education department's legal assistants while another 102 teachers are forced to work as OSDs to the Deputy and Assistant Directors of Education in the education department,” Sachdeva said, claiming that the posts of around 5,200 clerks and accounts staff in Delhi government schools are vacant.

“While on half of them contract employees have been kept at a salary of 25,000 per month while against the other half some 1,500 teachers in salary brackets of 70,000 per month are forced to work as clerks and accounts officers,” he said.

Further, Sachdeva alleged, “Teachers teaching in class IX & XI are working in the most frustrating atmosphere as for the last eight years they are forced to fail almost half the students as Sisodia and Atishi duo want only meritorious students to go up to class X and XII so that they give best results.”

He further claimed that use of first and eighth periods in daily time tables for happiness and co curricular activities means that students lose almost 25 per cent of teaching time every day.
