Shri Guru Rajan Ji illuminating on Brahma Muhurta

The last stage of the night before sunrise that is strikingly favourable and powerful, during Brahma Muhurta, a great shift in energies occurs. It is believed that spiritual activities accomplished during this time have a greater effect than in any other part of the day.

The other day I was sitting with a friend who perennially complains of her kids not relenting to waking up timely, let alone early. This got me thinking of reaching out to Shri Guruji and seeking his guidance as to what our ancient texts consider about waking up before the day shines bright. And Shri Guru Rajan Ji, like the lighthouse of wisdom, pulled from his knowledge, the exact something that needed to reach me.

Brahmī Muhūrta Uttitha Jīrajīra Niru Payan

Brahmī comes of the Sanskrit word brahmīk – the verb form of brahmā.

'That which has Brahma', when placed before to the word mūhurta, is explained as 'The time period that has the value of Brahma, or of creation'.

Utishta means 'get up' + Jīra and Ajīrṇa mean 'digestion and indigestion' + Nirupayan means 'to judge'.

Wake up in the brāhma muhūrta (the time of totality) and judge your state of digestion or indigestion.

A night consists of 15 muhurthas. Each muhurta lasts 48 minutes, and therefore the Brahma muhurta is the 14th muhurtha kala of the night and begins 1 hour and 36 minutes before sunrise, and ends 48 minutes before sunrise.  The time of the Brahma muhurta varies each day as the time of sunrise varies each day.

Ayurveda states that there are three kinds of Doshas in the human body known as:

  Vata (Air and Ether)

 Pitta (Fire and Water)

Kapha (Earth and Water)

These Doshas have different periods of predominance during 24 hours and each of the Dosha amplifies or mellows in the human body according as per the environment and time. Vata Dosha dominates the last part of the night that awakens in the morning with enhanced flexibility, well-functioning organs and body - mind equilibrium.

Also, our body contains three forms of Gunas: Rajo Guna, Satva Guna, and Tamo Guna. During Brahma muhurta, Satva Guna is active and benefits us with positive qualities.

Brahma Muhurta - an optimal period for harnessing knowledge, is the time of God, sacred time or the creator hour.

Immensely powerful, the last stage of the night before sunrise, during Brahma Muhurta, a great shift in energies occurs. The spiritual activities accomplished during Brahma Muhurta are optimally fruitful than in any other part of the day.

During the time of Brahma Muhurta, the concentration level is at peak. Therefore, students are advised to study during Brahma Muhurat as this time is

lucrative for attaining Brahm Gyan. Meditation or Dhyana at this time improves mental performance, thus  assisting in increasing Sato Guna, therefore diminishing mental irritation, hyperactivity or lethargy - effected by

Rajo and Tamo Guna.

At the time of Brahma Muhurta, peace is at its peak and that has a direct effect on the body and mind. The environment is calm as everything is quiet, the day has not yet begun. We feel tranquility indide as around this time, the pineal gland is highly active.

Synchronising our body-clock with the rising and setting sun is the best way to reverse the ageing process.

In the human body and mind, The pancha tattwa exist through the three doshas: Vata (air), Pitta (fire) and Kapha (water). Balanced Doshas keep in harmony and good health, the body and mind. In the body, vata is related to gas, pitta to bile and kapha to mucus.

Each dosha becomes predominant during certain periods of the day. In fact, the entire 24 hours of the day and night can be divided between periods of vata, pitta and kapha, in which the qualities of the predominant dosha prevail.

The first period of Vata lasts four hours and ends at sunrise, elevating midway - thus, marking the beginning of Brahma muhurta, when vata is at its peak.

As per Ashtanga Hridayam, “Brahmi Muhurtam

Uttishthet Swastho Rakshartham Ayusha: tatra sarvartha shantyartham smareccha madhusudanam", that means One should wake up during Brahma Muhurta for perfect health; and for achieving a life as long as one desires.

I think I am going to have my friend make her kids meet Shri Guru Rajan Ji and in case, you wish to reach for him in order to have your kundli (birth chart) analysed vividly, his numbers are : 9266514545, 9266524545.
