Shaheed Wall to be inaugurated soon

Wednesday, 23 October 2024 | PNS | Prayagraj

Committed to preserving the religious and spiritual traditions of Sanatan Dharma, as exemplified by the Maha Kumbh, while also honouring the sacrifices of the brave martyrs who fought for India’s independence, the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has constructed a ‘Shaheed Wall’ in Prayagraj, the martyrdom site of Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad, set to be inaugurated soon.

Located on Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Civil Lines area, the monument, constructed by Prayagraj Smart City at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore, aims to educate tourists about the sacrifices made by the sons of Prayagraj during the Maha Kumbh.

Finishing touches are currently being given to the wall, and it is expected to be inaugurated before the Maha Kumbh.

This year, devotees and visitors to the Kumbh City in Prayagraj will have the opportunity to learn about the martyrs’ sacrifices while experiencing the spiritual atmosphere of the Maha Kumbh.

As part of this initiative, the Yogi government has built the Shaheed Wall to commemorate the anonymous martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation, helping to share their stories with the public.

Prayagraj has played a significant role in the freedom movement, with numerous memorials dedicated to immortal martyrs still evident in the area.

Among these, Azad Park—where the legendary martyr Chandrashekhar Azad sacrificed his life—and Malaka Jail, a site that witnessed Thakur Roshan Singh’s sacrifice, stand out.

Additionally, many unsung martyrs from the district remain unrecognised by the younger generation. To honour their sacrifices, the Yogi government constructed the Shaheed Wall.

This impressive 108-foot-long monument in Civil Lines is dedicated to 29 unsung martyrs from Prayagraj. It features photographs of the martyrs displayed in 29 small murals, each accompanied by a written introduction in red sandstone.

The installation also includes eight larger murals that narrate the stories of these martyrs’ sacrifices, engraved in stone below each mural.

Furthermore, the Shaheed Wall is equipped with two water coolers and water fountains, alongside five pergolas for shade. LED flood lights illuminate the area, while landscaping and horticultural work enhance the surroundings.

Signage has been installed along the wall, and there is a designated seating area made of special flooring stone, providing a space for reflection and remembrance.
