Minister Vishwas Sarang has intervened to prevent electricity disconnections in the Dwarkadham and Gokul Dham residential colonies on New Jail Road, ensuring that over 700 families will no longer face power outages.
The intervention comes after the electricity connections of both colonies were disconnected due to unpaid bills amounting to Rs 1.32 crore. In a resolution reached in the presence of Minister Sarang, it was decided that the builder’s land in the colony, a 21,000 square-foot commercial plot, would be sold to pay off the outstanding electricity bill.
Additionally, an electricity sub-station will be constructed in the colony to address future power supply issues. This was not the first time the colonies had faced power disconnections. Over the past two months, both Dwarkadham and Gokul Dham have experienced their connections being cut off twice due to pending bills.
On November 14, the disconnection led to a 25-hour power outage, prompting residents to take their complaints to the CM House. Minister Sarang was subsequently involved in resolving the matter.
Residents, who had expressed their concerns to Minister Sarang, also raised the issue of the builder’s failure to pay the collected electricity bills. Despite more than 95% of the residents regularly paying their share of the bill, the builder had not remitted the payments to the electricity company, resulting in the mounting arrears. A meeting was held to address the issue, with Collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh and officials from the electricity company also in attendance.
It was agreed that the builder’s mortgaged land would be sold, and the Rs 1.32 crore bill would be cleared using the proceeds. Additionally, residents who had outstanding bills would be allowed to pay their dues in five installments, with the first payment due by December 15. The decision was welcomed by the residents, many of whom had previously faced hardships due to the repeated power cuts. The colony is home to around 700 families, including 100 ex-servicemen and 100 doctor families, along with many other professionals.
The disruption of power had caused significant inconvenience, especially considering the high percentage of regular bill payers within the colony.
The residents had previously attempted to take legal action against the builder. On November 14, they reached Gandhinagar police station to file a complaint and register an FIR for fraud against the builder.
When no action was taken, they approached the CM House, but were unable to meet CM Dr. Mohan Yadav. Their complaints were submitted to a CM House officer, and Minister Sarang stepped in the following day to call a meeting and resolve the issue. With the issue now addressed, the residents are hopeful that their long-standing concerns will finally be resolved, ensuring uninterrupted power supply and proper compensation for the outstanding bills.
