Sachdeva expresses gratitude to voters for support in LS polls

Friday, 07 June 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva on Thursday said that the Lok Sabha 2024 election results show that people of the national capital are looking for an alternative for the assembly polls due next year while expressing gratitude to the voters of Scheduled Caste and Sikh majority constituencies for supporting the party in the elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which won all seven seats in Delhi in the 2014 and 2019 general elections, completed its third consecutive sweep in the city on Tuesday. "Our opponents used to say that vote split paved the way for the BJP's victory in the Lok Sabha polls but this time both the AAP and the Congress were defeated despite alliance," Sachdeva said.

The Lok Sabha poll results also showed that people of Delhi have rejected the corruption of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and are looking for an alternative in the 2025 assembly polls, the Delhi BJP president said. "That alternative is the Bharatiya Janata Party," he said, adding that a double engine government at the Centre and Delhi will make the national capital a world-class city.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP led over the AAP-Congress alliance candidates in 52 out of 70 assembly segments spread across the seven parliamentary constituencies in Delhi, Sachdeva claimed. He said the BJP has been out of power in Delhi since 1998 and there is a large section of people in the city who have not experienced a BJP-led government.

People of Delhi gave chance to the Congress for 15 years and then to the AAP in the last 10 years but now they are looking for an alternative, the BJP leader said. He said the BJP will provide better facilities to the people of the national capital and also make the city better.

While stating that the support of every section of society is essential for victory, Sachdeva said, “BJP has thwarted the opposition alliance of AAP and Congress in this election, and the biggest contribution in that is of Delhi's Scheduled Caste and Sikh voters. Achieving victory by winning nine out of 12 reserved assembly constituencies in Delhi after almost three decades is a testament to the support of the poor who want a BJP government.” He added that BJP has also achieved unprecedented success in Delhi's 5 Sikh majority assembly constituencies.

The AAP led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal registered massive victories in the Delhi assembly polls in 2015 and 2020 restricting the BJP to just three and eight seats, respectively.

Delhi has 70 assembly segments, including 13 SC reserved ones, and seven Lok Sabha constituencies. Each parliamentary segment has 10 assembly seats.

Sachdeva said, “In the Lok Sabha elections, the united opposition fielded two Scheduled Caste candidates, former MP Udit Raj and Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar. Where Udit Raj lost miserably with almost 3 lakh votes, MLA Kuldeep Kumar also suffered a crushing defeat in his assembly constituency Kondli.”

He added that based on the love and blessings of the Scheduled Caste community, BJP has won big in reserved assembly constituencies Bawana, Mongolpuri, Madipur Karol Bagh, Patel Nagar, Deoli, Gokulpuri, Trilokpuri, and Kondli with significant vote margins. “On the other hand, Ambedkar Nagar was lost by only 903 votes, while Seemapuri and Sultanpuri too were lost by  small margins,” he said, adding that in the Sikh majority constituency of Kalkaji, we won by 12,149 votes, while in Harinagar, we won by a significant margin of 9,846 votes.

“We will now aim to win 12 Scheduled Caste and 5 Sikh majority assembly constituencies in the 2025 Assembly elections. BJP will now intensify its struggle for the rights of the Scheduled Caste community. Planned efforts will also be made to strengthen the party's connection with the Sikh community,” he stated.
