RP Ravi Firing Case: Akhilesh Singh acquitted due to lack of evidence

Tuesday, 23 April 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

Notorious criminal Akhilesh Singh has been acquitted by the court due to a lack of evidence in the firing incident on former judge RP Ravi in the Sakchi police station area.

The decision was rendered by the court of ADJ 4, Anand Mani Tripathi. However, a separate case against the accused Manoranjan Singh Lallu, Bunty Jaiswal, and Ritesh Rai is still ongoing.

The incident, which occurred on March 20, 2008, saw RP Ravi being shot by unidentified assailants while he was near the Excise Department office in the Sakchi police station area. The former judge sustained injuries and was subsequently treated at TMH. Following the incident, a case was registered by the police based on the statement provided by Ravi's wife, Beera Prasad. Akhilesh Singh and others were implicated as accused in the case.

According to Beera Prasad's account to the police, RP Ravi was returning home with fruits when the assailants, riding a bike, initiated firing as they crossed the road near the Excise Department. The attack resulted in RP Ravi sustaining injuries.

The court's decision to acquit Akhilesh Singh was reportedly based on the insufficiency of evidence linking him to the crime. While this verdict brings closure for Singh, the legal proceedings against Manoranjan Singh Lallu, Bunty Jaiswal, and Ritesh Rai are ongoing, underscoring the continued pursuit of justice in the matter.

The RP Ravi firing case has been closely watched by the public, given its implications on the safety of individuals in positions of authority. The acquittal of Akhilesh Singh highlights the complexities involved in establishing culpability in criminal cases and underscores the importance of thorough investigation and evidence gathering.

As the legal proceedings progress, the verdict serves as a reminder of the critical role played by the judiciary in upholding the principles of justice and ensuring accountability. The outcome of the ongoing case against the remaining accused will be awaited with keen interest by all concerned parties.
