Punjab Government is set to roll out a massive employment initiative aimed at creating significant job opportunities in key sectors such as Health, Education, and others, announced the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday, while speaking at a ceremony where appointment letters were handed over to new recruits.
Mann reaffirmed the state government's commitment to providing ample opportunities for the youth, stressing that this initiative is part of an ongoing mission to empower young people and ensure their active involvement in Punjab's socio-economic development.
Since the beginning of his tenure, he said that the State Government has provided nearly 50,000 government jobs to youth, a major achievement that was celebrated today. Mann stated that a large-scale employment drive will soon be launched to further expand job opportunities, ensuring youth can take a central role in the state's progress.
He also mentioned that the feasibility of accommodating youth, who have aged while waiting for jobs during their protests, is being explored, offering a fair chance to all.
The Chief Minister urged the youth to remember that hard work is the true key to success. He encouraged them to stay focused, continuously strive for improvement, and use their new positions to serve the public with dedication and zeal. He emphasized that success should be rooted in humility and hard work, advising the youth to remain grounded despite their accomplishments.
Mann highlighted the transparency of the recruitment process, noting that every job offered was based purely on merit. “Not a single appointment out of these nearly 50,000 jobs has been challenged in court,” he proudly stated, underlining the integrity of the Punjab government’s hiring procedures. He also called on the new appointees to consider themselves as integral parts of the government, with a responsibility to contribute to the welfare of all citizens.
Additionally, the Chief Minister mentioned several long-term projects aimed at enhancing Punjab’s educational infrastructure. Construction is underway for new medical colleges in Mohali, Kapurthala, Sangrur, Hoshiarpur, and Malerkotla, which will help position Punjab as a hub for medical education in the country. He also revealed plans to establish high-tech centres that will provide quality training for competitive exams, including UPSC, ensuring that the youth can access the tools needed to secure high-ranking positions in the state and nation.
In a more pointed segment of his speech, Mann did not hold back in his criticism of opposition figures. He described SAD leader Sukhbir Singh Badal as a political novice with little understanding of the state’s issues, while calling former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh a betrayer of Punjab’s interests. He also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “master of phraseology”, accusing him of tailoring his rhetoric to suit his whims.
The Chief Minister concluded with a call to the youth to utilize their government roles not just for career growth, but for broader societal impact, ensuring that their work benefits the underprivileged and strengthens the state as a whole.
