Punjab Police arrest 2 gangsters after brief encounter in Patiala

Monday, 15 July 2024 | PNS | Patiala

In a significant breakthrough, the Punjab Police on Sunday arrested two notorious gangsters, Deepak and Ramandeep Singh, after a brief but intense encounter near Banur in Patiala district. The duo was involved in two separate firing incidents late Saturday night — one at the Rajpura-Patiala toll plaza and the other at a liquor vend in Rajpura.

The gangsters were intercepted by a police team while coming from Mohali. In an attempt to evade arrest, they opened fire on the police. The officers responded in self-defense, resulting in a brief exchange of gunfire during which one of the gangsters was injured. Despite their attempt to flee, the police successfully apprehended both suspects.

The state Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce the arrests. “Punjab Police arrests Deepak and Ramandeep Singh after a brief encounter and solves two incidents within 12 hours,” he posted, highlighting the swift action by the police.

The DGP also confirmed that a revolver and a pistol were seized from the gangsters, who have a history of criminal activities. At the toll plaza, the two had engaged in a fight before fleeing the scene. Later, at the liquor vend, they allegedly opened fire, injuring an employee.

Following the incidents, the police quickly formed special teams under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rajpura. With precise intelligence about the gangsters' movements near Banur, the police set up an interception point leading to the eventual encounter and arrest.

Deepak, hailing from Jalandhar, and Ramandeep from Bathinda, are now in police custody. The swift and efficient response of the Punjab Police not only brought the culprits to justice but also ensured the safety and security of the local community.

Further investigations are underway to uncover more details about the gangsters' activities and any potential links to other criminal operations in the region.
