Protesting against the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s “reprehensible” remarks against Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Punjab Congress on Tuesday staged a powerful protest march in Mohali. The protest, named the ‘Ambedkar Saman March’, saw Congress leaders and workers marching in unison to Mohali Deputy Commissioner's office, where a memorandum demanding Shah’s resignation was submitted.
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, speaking on the occasion, lambasted the BJP Government, holding Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly responsible for fostering an environment of disregard for the Constitution. “Dr Ambedkar is not just the architect of our Constitution, he is the embodiment of India’s democratic spirit. The derogatory language used by Amit Shah is an attack on the values that bind this nation. BJP’s silence on this matter reflects their contempt for India’s democratic ethos,” he said.
Congress leader also questioned Prime Minister Modi’s role in allowing such blatant disrespect to go unchecked. “The Prime Minister often talks about ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ but his silence on Amit Shah’s statement shows the hypocrisy of his words. The people of Punjab and India deserve a government that values equality and respects those who laid the foundation of this nation’s democracy,” he added.
PPCC chief announced that similar protest marches would be organized in every district of Punjab, where memorandums would be submitted to respective Deputy Commissioners, demanding Shah’s resignation and a public apology. “Punjab Congress will not rest until Amit Shah steps down. The BJP must understand that Dr Ambedkar’s legacy is not up for debate or desecration. This struggle is not just for justice but also to protect the soul of India’s Constitution,” he declared.
Sampla Slams Cong for Politicizing Shah’s Speech
Senior BJP leader and the former Union Minister Vijay Sampla on Tuesday criticized the Congress accusing the grand old party of politicizing a portion of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech by presenting it out of context. Sampla, addressing the media, stated that such tactics by the Congress would fail as the people of the nation are discerning enough to see through them.
Sampla highlighted that Babasaheb Ambedkar was staunchly against the partition of India and Article 370 and had voiced concerns about the atrocities faced by Hindus in East Bengal. He contrasted the ideologies of the BJP and Congress, asserting that the BJP honours anyone who has contributed to the nation’s progress, unlike the Congress, which, according to him, elevates only one family.
He further remarked that the BJP respects even its adversaries for their contributions to national growth, whereas the Congress focuses narrowly on familial glorification. Criticizing Rahul Gandhi, Sampla said that he carries the Congress’s legacy of disrespect towards Babasaheb and urged him to end the "drama”.
