In a significant stride towards equipping Punjab’s youth with global competencies, Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) on Friday forged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft — aimed at imparting essential skills to at least 10,000 youth annually, catering to the evolving demands of the global job market.

The MoU, signed by PSDM director Amrit Singh, and Microsoft Corporation India Private Limited, Country Head-Education Sanjay Dhingra marked a pivotal moment in Punjab’s commitment to nurturing a skilled workforce. This collaborative effort was celebrated as a milestone achievement by the state’s Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora, who expressed confidence in the transformative impact of the partnership.

“This collaboration with Microsoft is poised to empower our youth with vital digital productivity, employability, English communication, entrepreneurship, and cutting-edge technology skills,” said Arora, adding that it reflects our unwavering resolve to provide ample employment opportunities to Punjab’s dynamic youth.

Detailing the scope of the collaboration, Amrit Singh highlighted the comprehensive initiatives planned for the fiscal year 2024-25. These initiatives are meticulously tailored to meet the diverse needs of learners under PSDM’s purview, focusing on future-oriented skills such as cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and sustainability.

“Our aim is not just skill development but ensuring our youth are prepared to thrive in an AI-enabled economy,” emphasized Amrit Singh, adding, “This partnership with Microsoft underscores our commitment to bridging the gap between education and industry needs.”

The Department of Employment Generation, Skill Development, and Training affirmed its dedication to meeting industry manpower demands through rigorous training and strategic collaborations with leading corporations. Amrit Singh also hinted at forthcoming MoUs with other industry giants, underscoring PSDM’s proactive approach in preparing Punjab’s youth for global competitiveness.
