Police Crackdown on Criminal Network, six arrested, including key suspects in murder case

Thursday, 11 January 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

In a significant breakthrough, the Jamshedpur police have successfully apprehended six criminals, out of which two have their involvement in the murder of Sajjad alias Tanda and Jawan Ramdev near Jawaharnagar Road No. 17 under Mango police station. Among the arrested, key suspects Raju Tanti alias Bhuvan Tanti and Shatrughan Hansda were captured near the pump house on the banks of the Swarnarekha river in Benasol, Musabani, as they were planning a robbery.

The arrest operation, led by the police following secret information about criminal gatherings, resulted in the recovery of crucial evidence. A country-made pistol, three live bullets, a chapadar, an iron cutter, Rs 13,920 in cash, and various other items were seized from the accused.

According to SSP Kishore Kaushal, the police received intelligence that criminals were congregating near the pump house, plotting an imminent incident. Acting swiftly, the police formed a team, conducted a raid, and successfully apprehended the suspects. During interrogation, it was revealed that the criminals had committed theft at the DVC power station in Surda on the night of January 8–9, stealing copper and aluminum wires. Furthermore, they were planning another criminal act.

Raju Tanti and Shatrughan Hansda, described by SSP Kaushal as vicious criminals, have a significant criminal record, with eight cases of murder and robbery registered against both in the district and nearby areas. Shatrughan faces an additional three cases. The duo had recently formed a new gang for their criminal activities.

The police, determined to unravel the truth, plan to take Raju and Shatrughan on remand for further interrogation. SSP Kaushal disclosed that the duo was also implicated in the murder of Sajjad and Tiger Mobile jawan Ramdev in Mango on December 8. Raju, along with previously arrested Sanjay, was on one bike during the incident, while Shatrughan was present on the other bike. Both had been on the run since the heinous act, and the upcoming interrogation aims to extract more information regarding their criminal activities.

This swift police action demonstrates a commitment to maintaining law and order, ensuring justice for the victims, and dismantling criminal networks operating in the region. The arrests mark a crucial step towards bringing the culprits to justice and safeguarding the community from further criminal activities.
