Old woman found dead inside locked house

Sensation prevailed in the Goya Colony of Nishatpura area after an elderly woman was found dead; police suspect that the woman died of starvation as locals reported that she was not seen for the past two days.

The deceased identified as Lalita Dubey (85) used to live with her son and daughter-in-law who locked her in the house and left. It had been 2 days since people had seen the elderly woman and informed police after an intense pungent started oozing out of the house.

The police were immediately informed about the matter as they sensed something wrong had happened with the woman. The police arrived and entered the house where a woman was found dead in a room.

The police sent the woman's body for post-mortem. At present, investigation of the case has been started.

Police found that the son and daughter-in-law of the elderly woman had been out of the house for 2 days after locking the house and when a strong odour was sensed by the neighbors they informed the police.

The husband of the deceased elderly woman Lalita Dubey was a head constable who died of corona.

Investigating officer Ram Singh Thakur said that one of the woman's sons works in the police in Indore and lives there with his family.

The woman lived with her other son and his wife who are mentally challenged and they left home to visit Ujjain Mahakal.

During the visit money was stolen from them and as their mobile phone was discharged, they could not contact their mother. At present, prima facie, the woman is suspected to have died of hunger and thirst. After the family arrived, the woman was cremated. Action will be taken on the basis of the postmortem report .
