Number of Sarvodaya schools in UP reaches 100

The Uttar Pradesh government has made significant strides in enhancing educational opportunities for underprivileged students. A notable initiative is the establishment of Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Schools, operated by the Social Welfare and Tribal Development Department.

These schools aim to provide quality education to all, ensuring that deserving students receive the support they need.

Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Schools offer high-quality, residential, free education, complete with free hostel accommodation, study materials, and uniforms.

This initiative not only improves the future prospects of economically disadvantaged students but also contributes to social stability and prosperity.

The number of these schools has recently increased from 94 to 100, reflecting the state’s commitment to inclusive and accessible education.

In these schools, 60 per cent of seats are reserved for students from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, 25 per cent for Other Backward Class students, and 15 per cent for General category students. This policy ensures equal access to education for children from economically disadvantaged families across various communities. Separate schools are available for boys and girls, fostering a safe and conducive learning environment.

Currently, there are 100 Sarvodaya schools across 58 districts, including 31 for girls and 69 for boys.

Residential facilities are also being expanded in 45 of these schools to further support students. The Yogi government’s initiatives are transforming the aspirations of underprivileged girls who wish to become doctors and engineers into reality.

Talented girls attending Sarvodaya schools now receive free coaching for NEET and JEE.

A dedicated coaching centre in Madihan, Mirzapur district, offers free coaching to 40 meritorious girl students, helping them pursue prestigious careers.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasises all-round development in education. The government provides not only free education but also essential supplies, including study materials, uniforms, and sports facilities.

This comprehensive support aims to empower students academically, physically, and mentally. To ensure high-quality education, a recruitment drive for 570 retired state government teachers is currently underway.

Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) for Classes VI to X receive an honorarium of Rs 34,125, while Post-Graduate Teachers (PGTs) for Classes IX and XII earn Rs 35,700.

As a result of these efforts, the number of beneficiary students has increased significantly. From 32,429 students in 2018-19, the figure has risen to over 35,000 in 2024-25.

The state now boasts 100 Sarvodaya schools, with six new schools added recently.

The government aims to extend this educational system to benefit as many underprivileged children as possible.

Sarvodaya Vidyalaya serves as a vital means of providing quality education to talented children from underprivileged backgrounds. These residential schools offer a solid platform with free accommodation, meals, and essential educational resources, allowing students to focus on their studies.

Looking ahead, the government plans to further expand the number of Sarvodaya schools, ensuring quality education is accessible in every district, both rural and urban.

This inclusive education system is not only enhancing the educational landscape but also contributing significantly to the overall development of the state. By fostering unity and cooperation among students from diverse backgrounds, the government’s initiative is a beacon of hope for underprivileged yet talented students.
