No differences in seat sharing for LS Poll: JMM

Sunday, 14 January 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

The leading party in the ruling coalition in the State, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has said that there is no issue among the coalition partners over sharing of seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. An important meeting of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Congress regarding the distribution of Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand was held in Delhi on Saturday. The leaders of JMM, who came out after this meeting said that a positive discussion took place in the meeting.

State Transport Minister Champai Soren said that there is no problem regarding sharing of seats in Jharkhand and discussions were held on various issues pertaining to the upcoming polls. He said that the discussions took place in a good atmosphere and the parties of the alliance are united to put a strong face in the LS polls.

Senior JMM leader and General Secretary of the party Supriyo Bhattacharya said that every worker of the JMM will contest elections on all 14 seats of Jharkhand. He said that apart from Jharkhand, the party will contest elections in other states also, where it has a strong support base. The party will contest from others states too where there is strong tribal presence.

A delegation of four senior JMM leaders including Minister Champai Soren, MLA Sudivya Kumar, party general secretary cum state coordination committee member Vinod Pandey, general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya had visited Delhi for the meeting. The delegation held detailed discussion with the committee headed by Congress National General Secretary Mukul Wasnik, senior party leaders Salman Khurshid, Mohan Prakash, Bhupesh Baghel, state in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir, state president Rajesh Thakur and Congress Legislature Party leader Alamgir Alam.

However, political experts said that the seat sharing formula has become a difficult task for the ruling coalition in the State as both JMM and Congress, apart from RJD, JD (U) and Left are trying to secure more seats than what they agreed to in the last general elections.

The JMM is said to be asking for 10 seats out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand, while the Congress is also seeking 9 seats. Sources said that the RJD and CPI (M) are looking for one seat each, while the JD(U) is demanding two seats.

In the 2019 general elections the JMM and Congress had agreed on a 9-5 formula. Congress had granted two seats to then Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, while the JMM had given one seat out of five of its quota to RJD. The coalition, in the final tally, could get only two seats out of 14 in the State.
