Nepalese man with Rs 50,000 reward on head for killing doctor arrested from Uttarakhand-Nepal border

A 38-year-old Nepalese man on whom the Delhi police has put a reward of Rs 50,000 for killing a doctor in south Delhi’s Jangpura area during a robbery bid. He was arrested from Uttarakhand -Nepal border.  During investigation, it was revealed that the accused after commission of crime has changed around eight mobile sets and nearly 20 SIMs. Further a tip off was received that he is presently in Sunder Nagar, Himachal Pradesh and trying to flee to Nepal. In the meantime he boarded a bus to Banbasa, Indo-Nepal border from where he was nabbed.The Crime Branch team travelled nearly 1600 km continuously in 24 hrs to nab the accused.

It was also revealed that Shahi also changed his name six times and used fake identity papers wherever he went, the police said, adding they found papers with the names Vishnu Swaroop Shahi, Shakti Sai, Satya Sai, Surya Prakash Shahi, Gagan Oli, and Krishna Shahi.He was carrying the fictional identity 'Gagan Oli' when he was arrested, the police said.

DCP (Crime) Sanjay Kumar Sain said, the accused Vishnuswaroop Shahi a native of Kalikot, Nepal was absconding in a murder cum robbery case of Hazrat Nizamuddin police station.

DCP said, in May earlier this year, a doctor was killed during a robbery. During the probe, it was found that there were many accused persons behind the crime. The police had  already nabbed three accused including the maid and two other accused Akash Kumar and Himanshu Joshi while mastermind Vishnuswaroop Shahi and his four associates were still at large.

The police received intelligence that Vishnuswaroop Shahi was hiding in Himachal Pradesh's Suket valley, from where he planned to escape to Nepal. Shahi came to meet his wife and daughter who are residing in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, after spending months in Nepal. The accused fled to Dehradun before a police team reached his Himachal hideout, the police said.

According to police, the accused was previously found to be involved in two cases of Himachal in which he was declared proclaimed offender. He used to socialize with Nepalese maids to get details of house owners.

Further investigation is in progress. The doctor, Yogesh Chandra Paul, 63, was found murdered in his Jangpura house where he lived with his wife. While his body was found in the kitchen, the rooms bore signs of vandalism suggesting robbery.
