Mining Task Force meeting: DC orders surprise inspection

Monday, 10 June 2024 | PNS | Seraikela

A crucial review meeting of the District Level Mining Task Force (DMFT) was held under the chairmanship of District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla. The meeting, conducted via video conferencing, focused on formulating and implementing stringent measures against illegal mining activities in the district.

During the session, Deputy Commissioner Shukla reviewed the progress on guidelines set in the previous meeting and emphasized the need for an effective action plan to combat illegal mining operations. He reiterated the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives, enforcing a complete ban on sand lifting from June 10 to October 15, allowing only the sale of sand from legal stockyards during this period.

The Deputy Commissioner called for the identification of sites prone to illegal mining across the district and the establishment of check posts at key intersections such as Chawlibasa, Patkum, Milan Chowk, and Block Office Kukru. He stressed the importance of deploying officers and police personnel at these check posts in three shifts to ensure round-the-clock monitoring and prevention of illegal activities.

To reinforce these measures, Deputy Commissioner Shukla instructed relevant authorities to conduct surprise inspections in areas susceptible to illegal mining. He mandated strict legal actions under appropriate sections against individuals involved in the unlawful mining and operation of sand, coal, stone, and other minerals.

Superintendent of Police Manish Toppo emphasized the need for mutual coordination among circle officers and police station in-charges. He directed them to conduct regular surprise inspections and check large vehicles at main intersections in potential areas to deter illegal mining activities. Ensuring consistent enforcement, SP Toppo called for legal actions against violators and reiterated the importance of maintaining vigilance across the district.

The meeting saw the participation of several key officials, including Superintendent of Police Manish Toppo, District Forest Division Officer Aditya Narayan, Deputy Development Commissioner Prabhat Kumar Bardiar, Trainee IAS Kumar Rajat, Sub-Divisional Officers of Seraikela  and Chandil, Sub-Divisional Police Officers of Seraikela  and Chandil, the District Mining Officer, District Public Relations Officer, all Circle Officers, and police station in-charges.
