Maoists trigger IED blast, woman killed, explosives recovered

In a dreadful incident near Vanagram Maradiri in the Darkada forest under the jurisdiction of Goilkera police station. An IED explosion resulted in the unfortunate demise of a woman identified as Randaya Purti, aged approximately 58 years.

According to the information received from villagers, Randaya Purti was in the Darkada forest near Vanagram Maradiri, collecting wood when the pressure cooker explosion occurred. The incident was reported to Chaibasa Police on 16th February 2024.

It was revealed that Naxalites had attacked the village of Chhota Kuida, which presently falls under the Maradiri Vanagram police station in the Ga Eilak Era district of Chaibasa. The Naxalites destroyed the village, resulting in the death of Mrs. Randaya Purti due to exposure to the explosive material used in the attack.

Upon receiving the information, the Chaibasa Police established coordination with CRPF 214 Police to respond to the situation. The body of the victim was retrieved from the incident site with the assistance of local villagers and CRPF. The deceased, Randaya Purti, was subsequently transported to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Chakradharpur for further investigation.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident, Chaibasa Police and all security forces involved conveyed their condolences to the family of the deceased. The Chaibasa Police and CRPF continue to conduct anti-Naxal operations in the Kaelhan area to ensure the safety of the local populace.

The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in the region, as Naxalites resort to using improvised explosive devices such as Pressure Cooker Modified Nitrate Mixture (PMNK) to target both security personnel and civilians.

“ The Jharkhand Police reaffirms its commitment to public safety and intensifies efforts to counter Naxalite activities, particularly focusing on protecting the rural population, including women. The fight against terrorism will persist, and security forces remain vigilant in maintaining law and order in the region,” said an official.

Meanwhile, in a collaborative effort, the Chaibasa Police, CRPF Bn. 209, 203, 205, Jharkhand Jaguar, and CRPF 60 Bn, 197, 157, 174, 193, 134 formed a joint operation team to counter the subversive activities of the banned Naxalite

During today's campaign on 16th February 2024, in the forested and hilly areas around Vanagram Husipi under Trenta area, security forces successfully recovered three IED explosives that were previously planted by Naxalites for targeting purposes. The bomb disposal squad played a crucial role in detecting and securing the explosives, enhancing the safety of the region.

Continuing the operations, security forces identified an old temporary Naxalite camp in the forested area near the village Sandiburu. The camp, capable of accommodating approximately 20 to 25 individuals, was promptly demolished by the security forces. During the operation, various old items from the Naxalite camp and materials for making IEDs were recovered, along with other daily-use materials.
