Maoist carrying reward of Rs 14L gunned down

In an encounter between police and Naxalites in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, police killed Naxalite Ukas Sohan, who had a bounty of Rs 14 lakh on his head.

Police were surrounding the accused. During this, he opened fire on the police team. The Naxalite was killed in retaliatory firing. There was an exchange of fire between security forces and Naxalites in Kothiyatola of Hatta police station area on Monday. The operation of security forces is going on in the area.

After the encounter, an alert was issued in Balaghat district. According to ADG ANO (anti-Naxal operation) Jaideep Prasad, the Naxalite Ukas Mohan who was killed was a resident of Bastar Bijapur. Illegal firearms have been recovered from the killed terrorist. A very expensive wireless of Kenwood company has also been found in the possession of the accused. Naxalites used to use it for mutual communication in the forest.

Earlier on April 1, security forces killed two Naxalites in Balaghat district of the state. During this, weapons were also recovered from them. On April 1, late Monday night, a police search operation was going on in the forest of Kerajhari on the Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh border. During this, an encounter broke out between the police and the Naxalites. The bodies of both the Naxalites were recovered during the search on Tuesday (April 2) morning.

The slain Naxalites were identified as Sanjita alias Kranti and Raghu alias Sher Singh. The police also recovered an AK-47, another rifle and items used daily near the bodies of the Naxalites. During this, the possibility of many Naxalites being injured in the encounter was also expressed.

Earlier in December 2023 last year also, a Naxalite was killed in Balaghat. There was information about the presence of Naxalites in the forest of Soopkhar in Garhi police station area near Kanha National Park, on which the Hawk Force team started a search operation. During the search operation, the security forces saw the Naxalites and started firing on them. In retaliation, 1 Naxalite was killed. Weapons were also recovered from him.
