Leopard attacks cow herd, kills six cows

Sunday, 17 November 2024 | Vinod Prasad | Lohardaga

A leopard suddenly attacked a herd of cows grazing in Belga forest under Barwatoli Panchayat of Chandwa-Kudru block bordering Lohardaga-Latehar district. The knocking of the leopard created a stampede in the herd. Meanwhile, the leopard killed six cows, while one cow was badly injured. The incident is said to have happened around 5 pm. Navgeshwar Yadav, a resident of Bellanga village, was grazing about a dozen cows of his elder brother Arun Yadav in the forest when suddenly the leopard attacked him.

Due to a sudden stampede in the cow herd, he went down towards the forest and seeing the leopard attacking the cow, he ran towards the village on the reverse side, saved his life and informed the villagers. Here, due to the news of the leopard attack in the forest adjacent to the village, there is an atmosphere of panic in dozens of nearby villages including Jamuari, Hesalang, Madma, Ucharinga.

After receiving information about the attack, forest guard Luv Jha of the forest area and Belanga of the forest department reached the forest late in the evening, searched some nearby areas and collected the footprints of the wild animal that attacked the cow. The forest guard said that it was not a tiger but a leopard. However, according to eyewitness villagers, they have clearly seen the tiger. Now the people of the department are calling the tiger a leopard on the basis of footprints without even seeing it, only the department will be able to explain the reasons behind this.
