On this occasion, CM Champai Soren said that there was a by-election along with the Lok Sabha elections. Five MPs and one MLA have won from INDI alliance. She has defeated BJP candidate Dilip Verma by 26 thousand votes. Kalpana has been elected MLA from the Gandey seat, on that seat Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed of JMM was elected in the Jharkhand assembly elections held in the year 2019. After the summons to Hemant Soren, Sarfaraz resigned from the membership of the Legislative Assembly on 31 December 2023. This seat has been vacant since then. After which Kalpana Soren entered the electoral fray on this seat.
