JMM attacks Modi for Ghatshila’s copper mine closure

Sunday, 19 May 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) attacked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and said where the Prime Minister is coming on Sunday is an area of large copper reserve which was closed during Modi tenure.

Issuing a press communiqué, JMM Central General Secretary, Supriyo Bhattacharya targeted PM Modi. He said that as part of the upcoming Lok Sabha election campaign, PM Modi is coming to Maubhandar of Ghatshila on May 19 in support of the BJP candidate from Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency.

“Modi became the Prime Minister of this country for the first time in 2014. Now even after 10 years, the Prime Minister is coming to Jharkhand for the last phase of his term. For your remembrance, let us know where you are coming tomorrow. It is the Country's largest copper resource there. The country's prestigious Hindustan Copper Limited is situated there, which is in Maubhandar itself. Hindustan Copper Limited runs its operations from Rakha Copper Mine, Surda Copper Mine and Musabani Copper Mine. After your government came to power, these three mines were closed due to your policies. Along with thousands of workers, their families are struggling to survive,” said Bhattacharya.

The JMM General Secretary also said that the Prime Minister must also be aware that his then Mines Minister Narendra Tomar has been quoting you saying that the mines will be restarted. “You have had MPs here for the last 10 years who are also your candidates today. We kept lying again and again that we would start the production, but kept saying by heart the phrases in your own language that it has not started till date. Will you find solace in the sighs of these copper mine workers by sprinkling salt and pepper on their wounds?,” he asked.

“The then Chief Minister Raghuvar Das, who is today the Governor of Odisha and your MP, had performed Bhoomi Pujan and laid the foundation stone for the construction of the airport in Dhalbhumgarh in 2014. But till date not a single brick has been added to it. Why are you coming? Should people become more angry because of your failures in the last 10 years, then you are very thankful and welcome,” said Bhattacharya.

The JMM Leader also said that Vidyut Varan Mahato, who has been the BJP MP from Jamshedpur for the last 15 years, has done some work which you will be able to discuss. “At Galudih station where the Ispat Mail used to stop earlier. Why is it not operating today for 10 years? Your MPs repeatedly said that the operation of Saharsa and Tatanagar to Jamnagar via Darbhanga trains will start to connect Tatanagar to Bihar, but till date it has not happened. For the last 10 years, it has become their destiny to spread lies and confusion, leave many farmers in their misery and break the peace by creating hatred and conflict in the society. For your failure in Maubhandar, otherwise on May 25 in this great festival of democracy, the enlightened voters of Jamshedpur will make you aware of their decision,” he added.
