Chief Minister Hemant Soren hailed the INDIA alliance’s decisive victory in the Assembly polls as a triumph for the people of Jharkhand. Addressing the media persons on Saturday, after the results were announced, Soren emphasized the role of women and youth voters in the coalition’s success.
Sharing a video of his statement on X, Soren captioned it, “Jharkhand has won,” and pledged to honour the trust reposed in the alliance by delivering on the people's aspirations.
“You have played a pivotal role in fortifying democracy. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the candidates who participated and to everyone who worked tirelessly to bring the power of democracy to the masses,” he remarked.
Soren revealed that the INDIA alliance had clinched or was leading in 56 out of the 81 Assembly seats, a two-thirds majority, while the NDA secured only 24 seats.
“The complete results are awaited, and recounting is underway at some places, but this marks a historic moment for ‘Abua Raj, Abua Sarkar’ in Jharkhand,” he said, referring to the coalition's governance philosophy.
He added, “This election has been extraordinary, and we have passed a significant test of democracy. I extend my sincere thanks to all the voters who made this possible.”
Earlier in the day, Soren personally welcomed his wife, Kalpana Murmu Soren, at the airport, who came to Ranchi by a chopper from Gandey after winning the Gandey constituency, defeating BJP candidate Muniya Devi.
The INDIA alliance, led by Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), secured a resounding lead in the polls. The JMM accounted for 34 seats, the Congress 16, RJD four, and CPI(ML) two. The coalition’s performance marked a substantial improvement over the 2019 elections when the JMM won 30 seats, while the Congress and RJD had secured 16 and one, respectively.
With this comfortable majority, the alliance is poised to form the government, marking a new chapter in Jharkhand's political history.
JMM has called an important meeting of all the newly elected MLAs of India Alliance on Sunday. It is believed that the next step will be discussed in it. A letter has been issued to all the MLAs by JMM's Central General Secretary Vinod Pandey.
The BJP, on the other hand congratulated Hemant Soren for his win and expected that he will fulfil people’s aspirations. The party said it will play the role of a constructive opposition in the State.
