The Institution of Engineers (India), Jamshedpur Local Centre hosted a one-day workshop on "Latest Developments in the Field of Civil Engineering" at the SNTI Auditorium, Jamshedpur. The event was inaugurated with the presence of Ashok Kumar Das, Ex-Chief Engineer, Water Resource Department, Government of Jharkhand, as the Chief Guest, and Parvesh Kumar Dhawan, Chief Scientist, CSIR-NML, as the session chairman. The event was organized by Thirumurugan, Hony. Secretary, IE(I), Jamshedpur Local Centre.
The workshop saw active participation from over seventy attendees, including academics, industry professionals, and students from institutions such as NIT Jamshedpur, RVS College of Engineering and Technology, Maryland Institute of Technology and Management, Srinath University, and Al Kabir Polytechnic. Professionals from Tata Steel, CSIR-NML, RSB Transmission Ltd., and TSUISL were also present.
The inaugural session commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a welcome address by Parvesh Kumar Dhawan. Ashok Kumar Das, the Chief Guest, highlighted the significance of the workshop’s technical sessions and shared his experiences handling flood situations during his tenure in Valmikinagar.
The Keynote Lecture, delivered by Prof. Anil Kumar Choudhary, Professor of Civil Engineering at NIT Jamshedpur, focused on "Ground Improvement through the Use of Admixtures and Grouting Techniques." He discussed how grouting can enhance weak soil, making it suitable for construction.
Other distinguished speakers included Dr. Prahlad Prashad, Head of the Civil Engineering Department at NIT Jamshedpur, who spoke on "Coupled Shear Walls in High-Rise Buildings under Earthquake Loading," emphasizing best construction practices for high-rise buildings. Dr. J. Jayapal, Assistant Professor at NIT Jamshedpur, discussed "Sustainability and Applications in Civil Engineering," focusing on the importance of sustainable construction methods.
Onkar Singh, Ex-Senior Manager, Tata Steel, delivered a session on the "Latest Developments in Road Construction Methods," highlighting cutting-edge technologies in road construction. Soumen Naskar, Research Scholar at NIT Jamshedpur, concluded the technical sessions with a presentation on "Ground Improvement using Geosynthetics."
