In order to promote decent work in the state, the Department of Labour, Employment Training and Skill Development, Government of Jharkhand is organizing a one-day consultation-workshop (CONCLAVE) under the aegis of International Labour Organization (ILO) on social security and minimum wage of workers engaged in the gig economy on Friday, 19 July 2024 at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ranchi. The program will be inaugurated by the hands of Satyanand Bhokta, Minister, Department of Labor, Employment, Training and Skill Development, Government of Jharkhand.
It is noteworthy that with the objective of fixing fair and minimum wages for gig workers, a committee was constituted under the aegis of the Labour Commissioner, Department of Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development to submit a report on the challenges faced by gig workers. The Minimum Wage Advisory Board is already working with the technical assistance of the National Labour Organization to fix a fair minimum wage as per the National Labour Standards and meetings have been organized towards ensuring fair minimum wages for gig workers.
The objective of this consultation workshop is to accelerate state-centric policy making through discussions on fair minimum wage and social security for gig workers. This workshop is an opportunity for all stakeholders of the gig economy to share opportunities and challenges based on their work and experiences at the state / national / global level, as well as a golden opportunity to become aware of the knowledge available on dignified work in the gig economy.
