The India Meteorological Department predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in central Chhattisgarh and on Saturday sounded a yellow alert for the next three days.
IMD’s weather scientist H.P. Chandra told The Pioneer that heavy rains were expected at some isolated places in Chhattisgarh from April 7 to 10. This will be due to a trough developed from south Chhattisgarh till Tamil Nadu, he said.
Moderate to heavy rains and thundershowers accompanied with gusty winds will hit isolated parts of the central region of the state, he said.
Some of places in central Chhattisgarh will also receive hailstorm and its devastating effect could be the loss of Rabi and horticulture crops, he said.
People in Chhattisgarh will get relief from the scorching summer as the mercury will drop by about 5 degrees Celsius, the scientist said.
“Northern and southern Chhattisgarh will also see some effect and the temperature will fall to a great extent,” it said.
Citing that a yellow alert has been sounded, the scientist said the IMD has four colour-coded warnings as per the intensity of any weather system -- green, yellow, orange and red. Yellow alert is given asking the authorities and the public to be prepared.
