Hearing a public interest litigation over ban on sale of meat and poultry products during Ganesh Utsav festivities in Bina, the High Court has asked top administrative officials to list provisions invoked to issue the prohibitory directives.
The Division Bench—comprising Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait, and Justice Vivek Jain—was hearing an application from a local businessman who had claimed that the ban had resulted in losses for his enterprise.
Vijendra Ajmani, the plantiff, had moved the high court after the district administration had failed to respond to his questions.
The HC has sought responses from the Chief Secretary, District Collector of Sagar and Chief Municipal Officer of Bina in view of the directives that forced the business to remain shut for a 12-15 day period during the festivities. As per reports, the municipal official had issued the notification for the closure of shops and warned of action against those who failed to adhere to the directives. The High Court has now sought responses from the officials in a week. The matter is posted for October 22.
