Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai on Thursday said that the Hathras incident was the result of jungle raj prevalent in the Yogi Adityanath-led government in the state.
Congress Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi is expected to pay a visit to Hathras on Friday and he will interact with the victims of the stampede.
Attacking the administration, Rai said that the officers got information about the incident two hours after it happened. “The injured did not even get ambulance service while the hospitals lacked medical facilities,” he said.
Rai said that he visited the spot first but Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath went there later. “After some time, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also arrived. This proves that there is a rift in the government. This is proof of the internal fighting within the government,” he said.
Rai demanded that the families of the deceased be given a compensation of one crore rupees. He said there was some error in the list of the deceased and it should be corrected after investigation as the bodies of many people were sent to another district.
The UP Congress chief said the main accused in the Hathras incident was being protected. He demanded a high-level investigation into the stampede. “There should also be an investigation against those who gave permission and a report should be filed against the administrative officials and they should be arrested,” he said.
