Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini chaired the 13th meeting of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on Wednesday, where a significant budget of Rs 2887.32 crore was approved for developmental projects slated for the financial year 2024-25.

The meeting focused on several crucial agendas aimed at enhancing the infrastructure and civic amenities in Gurugram. Key discussions included plans to expand the city’s CCTV surveillance and adaptive traffic management capabilities, the construction of new water treatment plants, and the augmentation of existing water drainage and sewer treatment facilities.

One of the major decisions taken during the meeting was the green signal for the third phase of the CCTV project, costing Rs 422 crore, aimed at bolstering city surveillance and traffic management. This initiative will see the installation of high-resolution CCTV cameras across Gurugram, increasing their number from approximately 4000 to around 14000, thereby bolstering public safety and security.

Additionally, the meeting allocated Rs 52 crore for the construction of a flyover at the Sector 45-46-51-52 junction, aimed at easing traffic congestion in the area. Another flyover was approved for the Sector 85-86-89-90 intersection, further enhancing mobility and connectivity for commuters.

In a significant move towards sports infrastructure development, the GMDA sanctioned Rs 634.30 crore for the comprehensive upgrade of the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurugram. This ambitious project aimed at transforming the stadium into a modern sports complex equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including new training centers and amenities adhering to international standards. The renovation aimed to attract national and international sporting events, bolstering Gurugram's reputation as a sports hub.

Another environmentally conscious decision was the approval of Rs 69.66 crore for procuring 200 electric buses under the Gross Cost Contracting Model. These buses are set to revolutionize public transportation in Gurugram, providing residents with eco-friendly and efficient commuting options while reducing the city's carbon footprint.

Apart from infrastructure projects, the meeting addressed critical civic issues such as drainage improvements and door-to-door garbage collection. Chief Minister Saini emphasized the urgency of resolving water-logging issues in Gurugram during monsoon seasons, directing officials to ensure proactive measures and efficient resource utilization. He reaffirmed his commitment to personally oversee the situation and hold accountable any negligence from officials.

Regarding garbage management, Saini underscored the government's commitment to providing seamless services to the public. He instructed officials to commence immediate action to enhance cleanliness and aesthetics in Gurugram, setting a three-day deadline for visible improvements.

In another significant development, the Chief Minister announced that Panchayati Raj institutions would now be empowered to undertake development works worth up to Rs 21 lakhs without the tender process — a decision aimed at expediting rural development projects and empower local governance structures.

In related developments, Saini also chaired meetings of the Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA), Sonipat Metropolitan Development Authority (SMDA), and Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA), where substantial budgets and projects were also approved to address infrastructure and civic needs across these regions.

In Faridabad, the Chief Minister sanctioned Rs 2600 crore project during the fifth FMDA meeting to address drinking water and drainage issues. This initiative will include the construction of 22 Ranney wells, 70 tube wells using advanced reverse rotary technology, and eight boosting stations. Additional subsidiary stations will ensure efficient water distribution across the city through 500 km of new pipelines, aiming to increase water supply capacity to 450 MLD by 2028-2029. Another approved project worth Rs 1289 crore will upgrade the sewage system, addressing rainwater drainage and enhancing infrastructure resilience.

Besides Rs 100 crore were approved for PMDA development works, emphasizing transparent fund allocation to municipal corporations for village development during a pivotal PMDA meeting.

For SMDA, a budget of Rs 363 crore has been approved for FY 2024-25, aiming to finance infrastructural projects across the Sonipat Metropolitan Area, as announced in its inaugural meeting chaired by CM Saini.
