Government lines up 3 days Ramlila event

Saturday, 20 January 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

The Arvind Kejriwal Government  is organising a 3-day Ramlila event for the people of Delhi. From Saturday (January 20), a grand 3-day Ramlila event is being organized. The special Ramlila, taking place till January 22 at the Pyarelal Auditorium near ITO, is free for everyone. The ‘Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra’ will present a live 3-hour Ramlila performance from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Delhi's Minister of Art, Culture, and Language, Saurabh Bharadwaj, stated that initially, they requested permission for the magnificent Ramlila performance at the vast auditorium in Pragati Maidan’s Bharat Mandapam, and were willing to pay rent. However, the Central BJP government denied permission.

This announcement followed the AAP's decision to host the Sundarkand Path recitation event in Delhi every first Tuesday of the month. The inaugural Sundarkand Path occurred last Tuesday in the national capital, with AAP Chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal participating in the recital and havan ceremony in Rohini.

Bharadwaj, released a statement on Friday, expressing sorrow that the BJP, which claims to be a supporter of Bhagwan Shri Ram, has a different character behind the scenes. “The Delhi government's Hindi Academy department had been working on this plan for the past few days. Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, known for its beautiful and grand Ramlila performances for over six decades, organizes a nearly 3-hour program.

However, the BJP government at the centre, which has been consistently trying to retaliate against the people of Delhi for their defeat in various ways, have not spared Delhiites even witnessing the grand Ramleela.”

“The BJP does not want the people of Delhi to enjoy the grand Ramleela of Bhagwan Shri Ram. The behavior of the BJP-led central government is extremely unfortunate. Such conduct emanates a stench of petty politics,” he added.

Criticising the Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj’s statement, Delhi BJP Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor accused him of creating a controversy.

Kapoor said Bharadwaj was lying as the ITPO has a clear policy of not allotting Bharat Mandapam for religious functions. Kapoor said he had  applied to I.T.P.O. for allotment of Bharat Mandapam for a religious function on 24th December 2023 but I.T.P.O. had in writing refused allotment citing policy decision to not to allot for religious functions.

“AAP leaders are cleverer then their other INDI alliance colleague parties and trying to portray before the masses that they support the construction of Shri Ram Mandir and to mislead the masses are giving misleading statements,” he said
